Quando to want è seguito da un altro verbo, questo è di norma all'infinito preceduto da to: We want to go out, vogliamo uscire. Nell'inglese colloquiale to want può essere seguito da una forma in -ing, ma in tal caso il verbo in -ing assume un significato passivo e to want significa “aver bisogno di”: The kitchen wants painting, la cucina ha bisogno di essere ridipinta.
